From a spring-like run to meat heaven!!

Hi guys! I am back and here is what I have come up with. I am going to continue to post about my life (exercising/running, recipes and fun nights out in and around Boston), however I am going to post less often (3-4 times a week) and in addition to posts about my life I will try and find more running (and other) articles and running tips to discuss on the blog. In addition, I am going to start training for a big race this spring (either a 20 miler, another half or a marathon....). So please stay tuned and help motivate me to get through running outside in the cold Boston weather.

Yesterday was UNBELIEVABLE in Boston. The weather was similar to a spring day!! I had planned to go to a spinning class, but the outside was calling my name. So, I set out for a lovely run around the Charles River. Prior to starting my run, I decided in my head that I would not push myself to run too fast and try and enjoy the weather and scenery around me ( because let's face it, how many more runs and I going to be able to enjoy being outside...). I set out with no particular distance in mind and at a slower pace. I ended up running around 7 miles and just had the best time. I had great music playing, I felt great and I really valued living SO close to an incredible area to run (the Charles river). Here are my stats according to Mr. Garmin:

Duration: 1:00:31
Distance: 7.03 miles
Mile 1: 8:50
Mile 2: 8:21
Mile 3: 8:58
Mile 4: 7:53
Mile 5: 8:35
Mile 6: 8:32
Mile 7: 9:00

My times are all over the place because I basically ran how I felt. If I felt good I ran fast and if I felt tired I slowed down. It was an interesting approach, but it worked for me and I was happy to start getting back into the longer runs.

What is your strategy when running "fun" runs?

Later on yesterday, Evan and I decided to try a new restaurant chain that opened up on Newbury street called: Met Bar and Grill.

Wow, the place was happening and the food was better than expected. When we arrived the host explained that a table would not be ready until 10pm that evening; however, the bar downstairs had available tables. So, we sat in a cozy little booth in the "bar" area.

I started with a Cannonball Cabernet Savignon that was full-bodied and perfect for a fall evening. In addition Evan and I started with the smoked ham and cheese platter and marinated mushrooms.

The ham and cheese platter was totally not what we were expecting. It was MUCH BETTER!!! The meat was cured perfectly and the sides that came with both the ham and cheese complemented both well! Highly, highly worth getting again!!! As for the mushrooms again exceeded expectations on taste, delicious!!!

Another aspect of this restaurant that I liked was that they put a water jug on the table for easy refilling. I LOVED this because usually I have to wait SO long for my glass to be refilled, so this was a nice aspect of our meal.

For dinner, Evan and I split the 10oz dry aged steak burger with Vermont Cheddar, lettuce, tomato and bacon and the arugula salad with hazelnuts, Parmesan cheese and mushrooms with EVOO drizzled on top.

The fries were fried in "duck fat," Lovely!

All the food was great, fresh and very filling. The burger was given an 8 out of 10 by a burger conesour (Evan). With such a heavy dinner I had a lighter wine: Canyon Road Pinot Noir. Great wine to complement a heavy meal.

We had a great experience at Met bar and grill and we will definitely go back soon. However, a few things to note if dinning at this particular location: they do not have all the menu options that they advertised on-line. Also, CHECK your bill, the waitress overcharged us twice. The first time we commented on the wrong total and she took the check to change and once returned still had an overcharged total amount. So, CHECK, CHECK, CHECK your bill!!!

Hope everyone had a GREAT weekend!!! I can't believe it is almost Thanksgiving....

What are your Thanksgiving plans?

  1. Lady, I look forward to reading the articles and info you fish up!

As for fun runs, basically every run I go on is a fun run. So, I pick a distance and I make it happen. Timing is a secondary consideration unless I'm running extremely slowly or extremely quickly, I try not to worry.
